Try this Proverb!

I love this Proverb:

Proverbs 19:11 Good sense makes one slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense.

The first part is true but somewhat expected.  Unrighteous anger is a sin and has all sorts of negative consequences.  The reminder is always useful but it is something we already knew.

But the second part is fascinating to me and works really well on those occasions when I remember to apply it.  It is our glory to overlook offenses against us.  Think about how many opportunities you have apply that each day — especially if you spend time online.

Here’s a note from my study Bible:

In many cultures, any sign of disrespect to a man is a challenge to his honor, and he can regain it only by fighting whoever insults him. Here, patience and overlooking slights bring honor to a man.

Try it the next time you are offended in a large or small way.  Think, “Yes, that was an offense, but  I am choosing to overlook it for the glory God promises and to glorify him.”
